The diver behind the coaching
Originally from Puerto Rico, Arturo grew up a stone's throw from the Caribbean Sea, in a family that shared a deep love and respect for la mar. A chef by trade and training, he started diving in the late '90s and turned professional in 2011. In the years since, he has logged over 2,500 dives and certified hundreds of students across recreational, technical, and cave disciplines.
His credentials span the industry's most demanding programs — GUE Tech 1 and Cave 2, SSI Master Instructor and Tech Instructor Trainer, and SDI/TDI Master Instructor — but the credential list isn't the point. What drives him is the craft of teaching itself: breaking complex skills into manageable pieces, giving honest feedback, and helping divers build genuine competence they can rely on when it matters.
Why I Chose GUE
After years of teaching across multiple agencies, GUE stood out for one reason: it refuses to compromise. GUE training is standardized, performance-based, and built around real team diving — not a checklist to rush through. It produces divers who are precise, calm, and genuinely capable, and it holds instructors to the same standard it holds students. That's the kind of diving, and the kind of teaching, I wanted to commit to.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe great divers are built, not certified. Every class is small, every dive has a purpose, and every skill is practiced until it's genuinely yours. I coach honestly — you'll always know where you stand and exactly what to work on. The goal isn't to collect another card. It's to make you the diver others want on their team, and to give you skills that make every dive safer, smoother, and more enjoyable for the rest of your diving life.
Diving is a lifelong pursuit. My job is to set a foundation strong enough to build on for decades.
